>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Massive Air

The best way to rinse saltwater off yourself and your wetsuit after surfing is to find a river and jump in. In our case over labor day weekend, it was a stop at the Smith River on the way home from the beach. The same rope swing was there as when we were in high school, hanging from the same bridge that many of our friends (including old One Speed) have jumped off of. Crazy. And as proof that some things never change, there were even some classic river rednecks--complete with mullets, sunburns, and beer bellies--who had constructed a makeshift slip n' slide out of an old tarp and some Crisco. I've seen Deliverance, and I didn't want to hang around too close to dark with all that beer and lube around.

Gee's getting some nice air and style points in the photo above.

GGGGGGGranimo!

What a magic day it was.

Is the fact that we didn't even consider the bridge jump a sign of us growing wiser or simply older?

OS,

Check it out: http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1238293&an=0&page=14#Post1238293

A passer-through posted shots of the spot you so wanted to check on that magic day. Which could have been just a little magicker, eh? Actually it didn't look like that until the following day. Ha.

FP

BTW: Did any of those rednecks take a special liking to G's mustache?

Roger Festerer,

Now I'm off to see Dino Jr. Should I buy J Mascis a drink?

Catch back up tomorrow.

Ah the old Smith River post surf (or often post skunk) swim sesh.

Love that rope swing and the jump below the bridge. The gorge is super deep, like 50+ feet. Where I learned to scuba.

And as always a bit of GP whiskey tango in da house. Hey, they don't call SoOr little Appalachia for nothing.

YES!

We used to have some sick cliff dives back on Gower in Wales. Summer high tides when it was super flat... I hope kids still take some time away from Myspace to seek out stuff like that.

If that shot was pulled in any farther it'd be "Massive Hair" (read: chest, back, legs, stache)

Holy tubepaste FP! Should have been here tomorrow.

Oh well, it was a great day at the beach with you all. Not that we need any more reasons but those pics definitely seal the deal in making it down you way again soon. Save us a spot in the line up.

Damn, G. That is one, umm, hairy drop. Did you live?

OS: It wasn't that good "tomorrow," but it sure wasn't bad either. Is it just me or is the guy who posted those pictures a little hysterical about sharks? The responders, too. Of course you go out. Sheesh.

Fun waves around here this morning. Off to the local redneck rope swing. Magic.

No doubt those guys have some shark fear, must be Socalar's? The facts of life round here.

Funny bec I've so been there done that. X lady and I driving down to Arcata to see Sublime back in the day. Fall small clean glassiness. Pass spot X, eye balls popping. STOP, I say! Wedgey grinding goodness in 3 feet of water. Alright now just gonna go out and get a couple. And keep an eye on me now and if...... Hour solo sesh, many beatings, a few barrels, and an hour + later. Um I know I said a few but it was so dam good. 10 years + ago now, but feels like yesterday. Fuck I'm getting old.

Will be lurking starting this afternoon though Sun. Small but looks like glassiness will prevail. On the hunt for exposed punchy beachie's.
