(I've Got) Two Tickets to Paradise

The left side of this picture is fairly typical winter surf in Oregon. The right is a shot from Punta de Mita in Mexico. My wife and I just booked our holiday surf vacation: eight nights in a beachfront condo on Punta de Mita beach, just south of Sayulita in mainland Mexico. I've read great things about this little stretch of coastline. Apparently, there are 20-30 breaks within striking distance of the little resort town where we'll be. You can even hire boats to get to more remote locations. Anybody been there? We'll be sharing the two bedroom condo with our friends OS and She, and though it isn't exactly "going feral," an infinity pool/jacuzzi at water's edge was instrumental in selling the idea to the ladies in our group...

The only drag is that I'll be flying to LA, switching planes, going to Mex, then spending a few days in LA on the way home, which means mucho dinero to transport a board (if I have to pay $75 for each leg, we're talking $300 for my fish to fly). Should I just rent a stick down there? Should I buy a beater? Somebody in LA want to lend me a quad for a week?

Whatever I end up riding, it's gonna be great!

I don't have a quad, but I'd loan you one if I did.

Gimme Some Water

Mama never understood what it’s like for a losin’ man.
When her number-one son goes bad playin’ cards with the devil’s hand.
Boy, Daddy got real sick so quick ******* never understand.
I was the one who got good with the gun, took the money from the rich man’s hand.
Gimme some water!
‘Cause I shot a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, cool water…
Gimme some water.
I need a little water…
Jimmy grew up so fast, then he met me at the pass one day,
Said, “You’re a wanted man – Take your brother’s hand –
I’d be runnin’ with you anyway.”
So we rode late in the night like the fires of the desert sand
Till one day the posse caught us ‘cause the sherriff always gets his man.
Gimme some water!
‘Cause I killed a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, cool water…
I need a little water…
Oh, Jeez, I just can’t loose my hands!
I’ve run just as fast as my legs can!
But, Lord, I got no room to run!
Shouldn’t a done what I did with that there gun!

Hey, hey, yeah!

Gimme some water!
‘Cause I killed a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, cool water…
Can’t you… see that long white rope
Hangin’ from the hangman’s tree?
Take the restless horse – tie my hands, of course -
Tell my mother that I’m finally free.
Let me die like a man no one understands –
Let me pray – Let a poor man pray!
Smack that horse in the ass.
With my last, dyin’ gasp, my brother could hear me say,
“Gimme some water!”
‘Cause I shot a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, cool water…
Gimme some water.
Gimme some water!
‘Cause I shot a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, cool water…
Gimme some water!
Gimme some water!
‘Cause I shot a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, cool water…
Gimme some water!
Gimme some water!
‘Cause I killed a man on the Mexican border.
Cool, sweet water…
Gimme some water!

I believe you won't have to pay more than $75 one way.....It's the full one way..Not each leg..The airlines should cover it for one full direction for $75 each way...

Hey Macho brother,

I got a suggestion for ya - get a smaller fish...yeah...something in the 5'5" range...then they won't charge you anything.

Gimme some (typhoid infested) water!

Sayulita is great if you like trying to weave through surf-school kooks who shoot their surftechs at you as you try and go down the line.

It's a mushy, mediocre wave with an open sewer / creek emptying into the break and a bunch of expat wanna-be hippies who moved their in the last couple of years and think that they're intrepid explorers.

I love Mex, but Sayulita has come to rapidly emobdy the worst that Mexico has to offer.

Good thing I'm not going to Salyulita...

Hey chum! I just spent nearly 1 month in the Mita area. Here's the rundown.

1)Tip of the bay, accessible by foot (DONT WEAR FLIPFLOPS) or boat. Called 'The Cove'. Reef break like most of the breaks here, reef isnt bad, but urchins beware.

2)La Lancha - Nice left, but has a right working sometimes, beware of the 3 rocks in the lineup!!!!!

3) Burros - Wonderful mushy but fun right. Can hold to like 8ft but starts closing out somewhere past that. reef bottom, channel to paddle out

4)veneros - didnt surf it

5) ch****a - secret spot, didnt go, but heard the walk was KILLER (in a bad way)

6)rest. or anclote - saw it break 1 time i was there, long long long peeling right directly in front of the resturaunt area, long boardable.

Depending on how long you stay, the boat trips are gonna add up..fast. Heres the lowdown on walking/bussing.

1)La Lancha - head to the beach, turn left and start heading out if your staying in the main Mita area. walk over the log, and not through the little runoff next to the jetty, thats a sewer runoff (called El Stinky). The walk is around 45 min, but is amazing. Bring some type of shoes as it can get hot.

2) La lancha - bus - goto the bus station/stop little building next to the resturants, tell em you need a bus to La lancha. If they look at you funny, tell them Paladium. i dont remember the KM marking, but its just past a concrete building, before you cross a bridge. hit the "timbre" and get off, head onto the trail in the jungle to your right towards the ocean. be careful of kaymen

3) Burros, take the bus to paladium, walk/hitch down the road to the hotel (5 min walk) dont go in the main gate take the road veering left, follow path through jungle (another 5 min).

4)the cove (other waves). walk to main beach, head left to the point, or the light house. another wave called "El Farrow".

HAVE A BLAST!
www.flickr.com/photos/astraltx some shots of the area and areas south
hit me up if you need/want some more info. that area rocks! Check out the little "luncheria" place on the beach, 1.50 grilled ham and cheese tortas
